Domestic & Gender-Based Violence

Survivors of domestic and gender-based violence—including intimate partner violence, economic abuse, sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking—can access free and confidential assistance in New York City.

NYC Family Justice Centers (FJCs)
NYC Family Justice Centers (FJCs) are open and offer support in person and by phone to survivors across the five boroughs.

  • Call 311 or visit nyc.gov/fjc to be connected to your nearest center
  • Walk-in or make an appointment Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM
  • If using phone services, and if it’s safe, leave a message—staff will return your call as soon as possible
  • Services include safety planning, legal help, counseling, shelter referrals, and more

Emergency Services

  • In Case of Immediate Danger

  • Text-to-911 (NYC only)
    Useful if you’re unable to speak safely or have a hearing/speech disability

How to Use:

  • Type 911 in the “To” field (no spaces or hyphens)
  • Indicate if you are Deaf or have a disability
  • Describe your emergency
  • Include your full address, cross streets, and borough
  • Use full sentences (avoid abbreviations)

Housing & Shelter Access

If you are currently homeless or at risk of becoming homeless:

  • In NYC: Call 311 or visit the NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) for:
    • Emergency shelter intake centers
    • Prevention and diversion programs
    • Housing assistance

Outside NYC: Contact your local Department of Social Services for support and placement assistance.
